Biography

Dr Sarsam is a specialist Endodontist, who has been at Hayes Dental Surgery since 2018, and held the position of Practice Clinical Lead since 2022. Dr Sarsam is a Senior Clinical Lecturer on the post graduate endodontic program at Queen Mary University of London, training qualified dentists to become specialist in endodontics. He is also an examiner for the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh for the ‘Membership in Endodontics’ UK Speciality Exams. During the consultation Dr Sarsam will take a thorough history of the patient’s symptoms and will carry out a detailed clinical exam focused on the area of concern. A CBCT scan (Carestream) may also be offered which reveals a greater level of detail regarding the size of infection, and the anatomy of the tooth in 3D, to assist with diagnosis, prognosis and treatment approach. Following the assessment, Dr Sarsam provides patients with a diagnosis, and a discussion of treatment options so patients can make an informed decision about their treatment choice. He also works with a sedation dentist which can be arranged for anxious patients, and all treatment is carried out under a microscope. The restorability of the tooth is operatively investigated and determined prior to initiating the root canal treatment. Marginal elevation (with composite) can also be provided by Dr Sarsam to ease the provision of a crown by the GDP. Dr Sarsam’s preferred instrumentation systems are Dentsply Sirona’s Protaper Gold and Coltene’s HyFlex Controlled Memory File systems. Bioceramic sealers are used during the obturation process, and MTA/Biodentin for canals with open apex. Dr Sarsam normally provides the coronal seal with a composite core, prior returning patients to their general dental practitioners for a cuspal coverage definitive restoration. Dr Sarsam is also happy to assist with post placement, internal whitening and when requested the definitive restoration. Endodontic microsurgery can also be offered in suitable cases.
