Biography
Stephen Davies qualified from Manchester University in 1971 and founded a practice in 1974, where he worked for 44 years. His interest in complex restorative cases led him to study Occlusion and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) in the UK and USA, joining the TMD clinic at Manchester Dental Hospital in 1986 and becoming Lead Clinician in 2001. He earned his M.D.Sc in 1994 for research on splint wear in TMD management, receiving the Alan Hilton Memorial Medal for Research. Both are currently being revised for Springer Nature with co-authors. Stephen has represented the UK in the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders and chaired its Education Committee. He is a founder member of the European Academy of TMD and Orofacial Pain, and teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is Unit Lead for the MSc in Advanced Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. He contributed to the Royal College of Surgeons (England) Clinical Guidelines on TMD management in primary care and initiated the meeting that led to the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists for the Study of TMD. Recently, he joined the International Network for Orofacial Pain and Related Disorders Methodology Group, working on a brief diagnostic tool for TMDs.
