Biography

Claire Nightingale, a highly experienced and multiple prize-winning orthodontist, including “Best Principal, London” in the Private Dentistry Awards, 2022 and “Orthodontist of the Year, London, 2019” in the GHP Private Healthcare Awards, decided to become an orthodontist at the age of 12, having been inspired by fantastic care from her own dentist. She qualified as a dentist from Newcastle University (1989) and completed her specialist training as an orthodontist at Bristol University (1996). She is the PortmanDentex partner at Queen’s Gate Orthodontics and combines private practice in South Kensington with an NHS Consultant post at Watford General Hospital. Exceeding 25 years of specialist experience, she has treated thousands of children and adults, of ages 8-81 with fixed braces, and Invisalign. Her special interests include working with jaw (orthognathic) surgeons to treat people with facial deformity and to relieve the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnoea and working with specialists in restorative dentistry for patients with complex dental needs. Under her leadership, Queen’s Gate Orthodontics has won many prestigious, peer reviewed awards, including “Best Practice, UK, 2020” in the Dentistry Awards; “The Most Improved Practice”, 2021, Private Dentistry Awards; “The Most Transformed Practice”, UK and I Invisalign Awards, 2022; “Best Team, London”, Private Dentistry Awards, 2023, as well as being awarded Highly Commended for “Best Referral Practice, London” and “Practice of the Year” in 2020, 2021; “Best Digital Practice”, 2022; in the Private Dentistry Awards and the Dentistry Awards. Claire Nightingale was President of the London Dental Fellowship, 2019 – 2020, is Treasurer of the Women’s Dentist Network and has written multiple peer reviewed publications. Her textbook, “Orthodontics: A Picture Test Altas” won Highly Commended in the Medical Book Awards, 2001. It was republished as “Illustrated Questions in Orthodontics”, 2014, by Oxford University Press.
